Over the last year, I’ve been building Burhan: an AI platform designed specifically for the review of Islamic finance contracts and transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burhan brings together Islamic finance contract review, consultation and institutional knowledge in one workspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The platform has evolved substantially over the last few months, shaped by direct feedback from Islamic finance professionals and by one recurring challenge: reviewing these transactions is rarely just about reading a single document in isolation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In practice, a transaction may involve multiple related documents, several revisions, internal Shariah policies, previous committee decisions and external standards or regulatory requirements. A useful AI system therefore needs to do more than summarise text or answer questions from a document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Burhan can review a single document or a complete set of linked documents as one transaction, for example a master agreement with its related transaction documents, or a Sukuk prospectus and related documents, in Arabic or English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It can assess individual clauses, identify issues across documents, and keep the findings tied back to the underlying text and relevant references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But review is only part of the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The consultation workspace lets teams research questions against AAOIFI standards and regulatory references alongside their own documents and images, with cited sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Internal Policies brings the institution’s own Shariah policies, guidance and previous decisions into Burhan, so reviews and consultations can be grounded not only in public standards but also in the institution’s own established approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For successive drafts, Burhan links versions together and shows how review findings change from one version to the next. This is particularly important in transactions where documents evolve repeatedly and the final package still needs to remain consistent with the approved structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reliability has also been a major design focus. Rather than treating the underlying language model as the whole product, Burhan combines AI with structured review workflows, evidence, deterministic controls and traceable outputs. The objective is not simply to generate an answer, but to make the review process more systematic and easier to verify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burhan also supports flexible deployment options for different security, privacy and data-residency requirements, including environments where institutions need greater control over where documents and AI workloads are processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
